I met one of the world's foremost sleep researchers and experts, Matthew Walker at his Airbnb in London when he was over recently. Ironically, his rented flat was opposite Tiger Tiger which closes at 4am. So the world’s top sleep guru hadn’t had a great night’s sleep.

It was the perfect chance for him to talk me through his own sleep schedule, as well as look at other important sleep issues including;

  • The best time to go to sleep

  • The optimum way to prepare in the final hour before bed

  • The perils of bad sleep (frankly terrifying)

  • How to deal with insomnia

  • Sleep tips for parents (I need these)

  • The importance of bright light exposure.

  • The truth about sunglasses (surprising - if you are a sunglasses wearer make sure you listen)

  • Getting the temperature right in your bedroom. (Clue - the older you get, the cooler it needs to be.)

I’m sure that after listening to this you’ll change more than one thing about your bedtime routine. And if you enjoy it, perhaps you’ll share it with someone else you know who could do with a better night’s sleep.

Is a Carnivore diet good for you? Is it sustainable? Would it destroy the environment, even if it is helpful for you and your health?

Joining me is the man who eats liver, duck eggs and cooked fat for breakfast

And he has salad in his name, yet doesn't touch it.

Top Salad-dodger Paul Saladino of the foremost names in the carnivore community

I'm not spiritual. Should I be? It's a dilemma. I feel connected to the world, to others, perhaps even to a higher purpose. But I struggle to describe myself as spiritual. Maybe Martina Coogan could help.

Do we need to be spiritual to live a good life? Is it even worth thinking about such higher concepts?

Martina Coogan runs the Modern Mystery School here in London. They run huge seminars and workshops all focused on spiritual awareness and personal empowerment. She has taught in Ireland, England, Sweden, Turkey, USA, Canada, Singapore, South Africa and the Middle East.

Over the years, through her healings and teachings, Martina has enabled many people to rediscover and remember their true selves. She has reignited the spark within many, and empowered them to live their lives with love and joy, striving to achieve their highest and truest potential.

It's another ZestHacks episode, featuring the world’s cleanest vodka, an update on the Footpads we spoke about last week, zero drop footwear that my feet love (this is an ongoing quest), the top clean sunscreen, a great way to cook healthy with my top gadget currently, and an eco-friendly clothing brand we love.

Starting with the vodka. The idea is that the less impurities in an alcohol, the less likely you are to react to it. In other words, the less likely it is to give you a stinking hangover. And I am unfortunately Mr Sensitive these days when it comes to booze. But I might have cracked it with my new fave voddie. Listen on to find out more.

Amber necklaces and the history and power behind them (i am sceptical of these!)

What happens when poker players don't trust their instinct?

And lots more.

As always it was brilliant to chat with friend of the show Dr. Stephen Simpson.

The best-selling author Melissa Ambrosini, a well-known meditation teacher, as well as a nutrition expert joins me on Zestology, and would it be wrong to call her a lifestyle guru? She is, she’s extraordinarily successful and you may well have heard of her.

She’s written a book on relationships which is called Open Wide: A Radically Real Guide to Deep Love, Rocking Relationships, and Soulful Sex… not asking much then! And it’s been extraordinarily popular. So we get on to that, and also we talk;

  • Getting back to nature.
  • Living in the place that makes you happiest and creating your own reality.
  • We discuss Louise Hay and how it messes with your head when you feel rubbish physically, and what’s going on in the mind is helping to cause those physical symptoms.
  • Acuenergetics (yup I'd never heard of it either)
  • meditation teacher.

It’s a general chat, I enjoyed chatting to Melissa, this isn’t one of those podcasts when we dig deep into diet, or supplements, or biohacking, it’s more lifestyle tweaks, and stories for more energy, and more motivated relationships and life.

Holy shiitake! It's a special biohacking episode today.

Biohacking is getting the best out of your body and life by adapting your environment, lifestyle and diet. I've been into it for a while though not always calling it biohacking. Biohacking is a weird phrase for some, so if you rather, you could just call it optimising your mind and body.

Sometimes biohacking involves gadgets and tech, sometimes it involves using supplements, sometimes it involves getting back to a more primal state. Sometimes it involves gadgets, tech and supplements to help you get back to or mimic a more primal natural state.

Yes, yes, I know you just want to get to the shiitake, and trust me it's a great hack.

We'll look at who invented biohacking, and mainly hear from the experts.

Have an open mind, and play around with some of the techniques and tools in this podcast. You’ll find supplements, gadgets, practices and lots more, so go ahead and start biohacking.

One of the most popular pages on my website for a while has been the hacks page. This podcast is a podcast version of that. I'm considering it as a regular feature, but I'm not sure yet. What do you think? A regular Zest update on what I've been up to, what is making the news, what is popular, what seems to be working for people?

For instance - there's a new hay fever product which seems to be really capturing people's imagination. I've been trying it, others I know have been trying it, and it'd be great to have a regular podcast like this to let you know about it. But maybe not. Let me know what you think.

Today's hacks:

  • Yolife
  • Pycognecol
  • Histaminx
  • Quercetin
  • Low Histamine diet
  • Wellness festivals

You can find a list of some of my best hacks here, hacks, products and tweaks. There's also a new page on biohacking at www.tonywrighton.com/biohacking which is everything you ever wanted to know about that subject..

And finally, check out www.feeltheverve.com - I'll be speaking there in September and use the code ZESTOLOGY for 10% off.

I thought psychics were full of crap! But do I still?

While recording this podcast I come across a lot of wacky theories, beliefs and thoughts, and if I believed all of them where would I be? But if we are too sceptical, then do we close ourselves off to potentially some of the most amazing things that could help us?

What even is histamine intolerance? And why should you be concerned by it? Good questions! It's very common, and these questions are answered on this podcast. Dr. Joneja has written 7 books in the area of how we react to food, food allergies and intolerances, and digestive tract reactions to foods.

Histamine, as you’ll hear, is important, but when the total body level of histamine gets too high, all sorts of odd, unpleasant symptoms can occur, and often, histamine sensitivity and histamine intolerance is not diagnosed, because people don’t know about this stuff. And that might be happening to you now. It certainly was happening to me.

We cover these areas on the podcast

  • What is it
  • How is it diagnosed
  • Is it bad for you if there’s too much.
  • How do I know I’m histamine sensitive?
  • Is coffee okay with histamine intolerance or histamine sensitivity?
  • How to work out what’s okay to eat
  • Dao supplements seem to have talc in them. Is this healthy? What about  Grass-fed Kidney supplements for histamine intolerance.
  • Please let me still eat chocolate!

And lots more

Biohacking is a theme on this podcast. Let me explain that.

I look at cutting-edge hacks for improving your health and energy. For example, ever been tempted to spend a week in a dark room with electrodes stuck to your head? I did that recently, (so you don’t have to.)

But it turns out cutting edge often involves natural, non-pharmaceutical ways to improve one’s performance, wellness, health and longevity. I'm always all up for natural solutions. So today...

Discover the tradition and science of plant-based medicine to help you live stronger, smarter, and maximize your genetic potential

Oh and what the botanical biohacker Andrew Miles calls the natural viagra gets a mention too. Check out his podcast, Botanical Biohacking. We recorded this podcast a while back and am thrilled to publish it now, Andrew really knows his stuff.
