Next time on Zestology:

I'm with Laura Coe, entrepreneur, podcast host, philosophy lover and certified life coach, and we focus in on the two most important words in the world.

What are they? You'll have to wait until the weekend, but trust me, this is a good 'un, and Laura is an outstanding guest.

Jun 26, 2016

Coming up:

  • Unusual solutions for getting better sleep. (Warning - one of these involves sellotaping something to your forehead)
  • Why electric blankets are way bad for you.
  • Supplements for more focus
  • Why a cold bath might be the best thing you could do for yourself

If you could cram as many crazy biohacking techniques for feeling optimal into one day as possible, what would you do?

It's time for another fun podcast episode with my buddy, The LifeStylist Luke Storey.

If you are interested in biohacking and trying out different techniques for mind and body, today's show is for you. With a special focus on sleep.

This is the third time Luke has been on the show - he's very entertaining, knowledgeable and has also become a good friend.

Award-winning BBC broadcaster and journalist Tim Samuels is on Zestology this week. He's just written a new book called Who Stole My SpearGetting back to nature and reconnecting is so important. It's a recurring theme on Zestology, and Tim Samuels is the perfect person to help transport us back a few thousand years!

Coming up:

  • How can you hunt and gather in an open-plan office?
  • Why is singing so good for us on a primal level?
  • How can you get more caveman on a day to day basis?
  • And where does your DNA tell you that you originate from?

Tim stops at nothing to explore how men should actually be living these days. From relationships, religion, and the rise of ISIS, to porn, fatherhood and the oppression of office life. Nothing is taboo. Oh and if you're a woman, there's tons of content in here for you too. In fact I found Tim one of the most knowledgeable and definitely wittiest guests I've interviewed.

We recorded in my local park, which Tim describes in very amusing detail at the start of the podcast.

Gretchen Rubin on experiments in the pursuit of happiness and good habits #65

"Don't let books become the spinach of your life"

Just one of my favourite quotes from Gretchen Rubin in this week's Zestology podcast. By this she means don't only read worthy books/eat spinach because you feel obliged. Read and eat the good stuff.

Gretchen is a big name and an awesome guest for Zestology podcast. And books were quite a theme in this interview. She's the author of several blockbuster New York Times bestsellers. She has an enormous readership, both in print and online, and her books have sold more than two million copies worldwide, in more than thirty languages.

So I spoke to her on this podcast about upgrading some of our habits. Like:

  • How to read more
  • How to get over decision fatigue
  • And how to pass the toothpaste test (we basically invented this during the podcast)

Good habits help you to make better decisions, as it turns out. So listen to Gretchen help you upgrade your habits.

It's an illuminating interview, and I REALLY learnt a lot. Thanks Gretchen - and see you at the weekend for the full interview.

Bulletproof's Dave Asprey was recently in the UK and we recorded a live Zestology podcast in front of a packed-out crowd in East London.

But exactly which supplements does the world's best known biohacker take? When I asked Dave this question, he pulled out a bag full of pills, described each one in great detail, and then chugged the lot. Find out exactly what's in his stack and what should be in yours by listening to the podcast here.

Also in this podcast we cover:

  • Why travelling on the tube could be seriously bad for your health
  • How to deal with the British weather and always feel warm
  • The most bulletproof alcohol to drink in a London pub
  • What to give your kids (and yourself) for breakfast
  • The top three things you can do to upgrade your performance levels according to Dave
  • So much more

Discover the secrets of fat-burning this week with one of the biggest podcasters in the health area - Abel James.

Longevity would be nice, right? Living longer and being super healthy to really enjoy that long life.

Today's Zestology podcast guest Daniel Reid knows all about how to do this. He's a bestselling author on the ancient practices of Taoism, with his book The Tao of Health, Sex and Longevity.

I loved this book, so I got in touch with Dan in Byron Bay, Australia and he stayed up late to come on Zestology. He's a colourful character with a huge amount of knowledge, and he's lived a full and fascinating life, as you'll hear.

I asked him to pick 5 rules for living a long and healthy life.

Follow these 5 rules and  as you'll hear you might live to the age of 243.*

Test, track and improve. This podcast is a lot of fun, with a guy who seriously knows what he is talking about.

As you may know, I am an unashamed geek when it comes to tracking stuff. It's really not as tricky as it sounds though. It only takes about 90 seconds a night to track everything (lifestyle factors, supplements, energy levels and sleep quality) on a big old excel spreadsheet. Then, rather than wondering if meditation helps me feel more relaxed, or drinking loads of wine the night before a big day has a negative impact (duh), I have the data to prove it. This movement is known as Quantified Self, and there are some enlightened discoveries being made by people every day.

More and more people are tracking every day, using devices like the Jawbone (modelled by yours truly below).

Today's Zestology guest is Josh Trent. He is the founder of Wellness Force Radio, he’s been called a “Top 50 Digital Health Influencers of 2015,” and he’s a Quantified Self enthusiast & expert in Fitness Technology. With national accreditation from multiple fitness organizations and over 10 years of experience in the health & fitness industry, Josh is going to dig deep into the quantified self and explain just how to get the most out of those tricky fitness trackers.

It's a double-header, we recorded Josh's podcast first, and then Zestology, and so if you enjoy this episode of Zestology do head over to Wellness Force for more.
