Test, track and improve. This podcast is a lot of fun, with a guy who seriously knows what he is talking about.

As you may know, I am an unashamed geek when it comes to tracking stuff. It's really not as tricky as it sounds though. It only takes about 90 seconds a night to track everything (lifestyle factors, supplements, energy levels and sleep quality) on a big old excel spreadsheet. Then, rather than wondering if meditation helps me feel more relaxed, or drinking loads of wine the night before a big day has a negative impact (duh), I have the data to prove it. This movement is known as Quantified Self, and there are some enlightened discoveries being made by people every day.

More and more people are tracking every day, using devices like the Jawbone (modelled by yours truly below).

Today's Zestology guest is Josh Trent. He is the founder of Wellness Force Radio, he’s been called a “Top 50 Digital Health Influencers of 2015,” and he’s a Quantified Self enthusiast & expert in Fitness Technology. With national accreditation from multiple fitness organizations and over 10 years of experience in the health & fitness industry, Josh is going to dig deep into the quantified self and explain just how to get the most out of those tricky fitness trackers.

It's a double-header, we recorded Josh's podcast first, and then Zestology, and so if you enjoy this episode of Zestology do head over to Wellness Force for more.

Next time - Josh Trent. The best apps and gadgets for crushing it in life.

Jasmina Aganovic is all about challenging conventions and, even, challenging them in some pretty unconventional ways. Her product line, Mother Dirt, is poised to turn the cosmetics industry upside down, bringing a totally new definition to clean, healthy skin and, even, cleaning, healthy living.

This week Jasmina stopped by for a chat and we dug into what keeping clean and healthy really means. She shared some shocking insights, including why today’s goto cosmetics are actually doing more harm than good and, gentlemen, this includes some of your favourite products, too.

Tune in and see what it takes to get back that critical balance and keep your skin and your body healthy, happy and balanced. It’s easier than you may think...

Motivation, achievement and what it takes to endure with ultraendurance man Dean Karnazes #56

The secrets of motivation, from an ultraendurance athlete

This week’s guest Dean Karnazes does it all—seriously.
Not only is he a renowned endurance athlete and accomplished author, but he also works with several Fortune 500 companies all around the world, helping employees transform into elite leaders and managers.

Dean is, in a word, impressive. So impressive that TIME named him one of the “Top 100 Most Influential People in the World” and Men’s Fitness honored him as one of the fittest men on the planet.

Our topic this week? Motivation and achievement.

Dean’s got it in spades, and so can you. We’re chatting nitty gritty, including how he knocked off 50 marathons spanning 50 U.S. states in just 50 days and what it takes to run 350 miles across 80 sleep-free hours.

Even if you aren’t angling to run a marathon (or run anything for that matter), Dean’s got a lot to say on getting and staying motivated no matter what you’re up against.

This week, some of the world’s greatest medical mysteries:

  • Does stress really make you grey?
  • Are flip flops bad for your feet?
  • Do piercings help alleviate headaches?

Yeh, uh, perhaps not world's greatest, but important stuff, right?

This week’s guest, Good Housekeeping beauty editor Sam Escobar, has a lot to say on these topics and then some. Her life, in many ways, sits at that intersection between health and beauty, in a space that practically all of us are chattering about in one way or another.

It was lovely to hang out in NYC with Manhattan as a backdrop too.

Ready for a listen?

For you if:

  • You want to increase your energy levels by 20%
  • You have sleep issues, you struggle to get to sleep, or stay asleep, or don't feel refreshed after sleep
  • You feel stressed in some way
  • You get back pain
  • You sometimes get a bit tired and knackered

It was cool chatting again with popular Zestology fave guest Evan Brand.

Evan and I recorded a double-header podcast. We first spent an hour chatting on his show, Not Just Paleo. (You can checkme out being interviewed on his show here). Then we chatted on Zestology. There's some fun stuff comes up, including the strange moment when we met in LA, the time when Evan had to run out of a cinema mid-film, and what to do if you want to increase your energy levels by 20% (it's what I do too.)

Today is Zestology podcast number 52, which means we've been going a year. It's flown by, and been a lot of fun in the process. Thank you for being part of the journey, supporting me along the way, and hopefully getting some inspiration as you listen.

Now, ladies and gentlemen, as you know I always like to put myself in the line of fire and test out any new gadgets for extra energy. (I'm such a hero, right.) But this one I was super-sceptical about.

It is a crazy in-ear bright light energy headset called The Human Charger. I just wasn't convinced that a gadget that shines lights into my ears would do anything for me.

It sends bright light into your ear which is apparently as good as seeing it and especially good for jet lag and winter mornings.

The funny thing, despite my total scepticism, is I've been using this for a couple of months and for the mornings I've tried it I've felt a definite extra morning buzz.

So in the deep midwinter, I wanted to find out more about the effects of a lack of light in winter, how we can hack our jet lag, and lots more. Hence today's podcast with entrepreneur and creator of this weird headset Timo Ahopelto.

Imagine a gadget that makes you feel more alert, more energised, and helps get over jet-lag. We road test that very gadget, and speak to the inventor next time. Cool eh?

How do you turn the ordinary you into an extraordinary person of value?

Today's Zestology guest might well help us answer that. He's a BIG name in the world of podcasting. Jordan Harbinger is the voice behind top show, The Art of Charm, where he shares experiences and laughs with interesting people around the world. And today we cover these main topics.

  • What is charm? And how can we be more charming?
  • The one productivity tip that Jordan uses every day to keep his email under control.
  • How do you turn your passions into your calling?
  • How might you infuse your choices with meaning and excitement.

Due to his work with various governments and NGOs, Jordan has spent several years abroad in Europe and the developing world, speaks several languages, and has been kidnapped — twice.  He’ll tell you the only reason he’s still alive and kicking is because of his ability to talk his way into (and out of) just about any type of situation.

  • Would you like to learn more, but just can't find the time?
  • Would you like to remember more? And remember stuff better?
  • Are you interested in remembering every single person's name that you ever meet?
  • And lots more cool learning tricks

I love reading and books and learning. I'm a book geek, definitely, but it just doesn't seem like there's the time. I often manage a book a week, but what if it could be more? When I do read I love it and if you want some book recommendations then check out my special book club blog here.

I'm wondering whether we can all up our reading and learning rate. That's where today's guest comes in.

Today on Zestology podcast, I'm thrilled to get to grips with speed-reading, and remember more with world memory expert Jim Kwik. Jim has shared the stage with luminaries such as the Dalai Lama and Richard Branson, and is a highly sought after coach and trainer, with clients that include Nike, Zappos, Virgin, Fox Studios, Harvard University, and many more.

  • Are you overextended and overburdened by life?
  • Are you stressed out, anxious, maybe even panic-stricken about your commitments?
  • If so, you might feel quite liberated by The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k

I’m with Sarah Knight on the podcast Zestology this week. Sarah was almost 30 years old when she began to realise it was possible to stop caring so much, but was nearly 40 before she figured out how to make it happen. Now she’s written a uplifting and enjoyable book about it, and she’s on a mission to make all of us care a little bit less.

That’s me too. I could definitely do with caring a bit less about stuff, and so when I heard about her book we connected on Twitter and set up a fun chat. When you hear what she's got planned for the next stage of her life - inspired by the book - you may well be jel.

In today's show, we cover giving up one's job and starting again, planning more low-maintenance weddings and the country Iceland... she doesn't give a monkeys about that either. (Not sure about this one - I love Iceland! :)

Nevertheless, it is very liberating not caring so much about stuff. I'm interested, which is why I wanted to know more. And how...

When was the last time you truly got outside your comfort zone or just went on a new adventure? How did you feel during it? (Probably a bit terrified.) And afterwards? (Probably a bit awesome.)

Today's blog and podcast is looks at getting outside your comfort zone. (If you'd like to see a video of me getting outside my comfort zone on a hoverboard, scroll down to the bottom of this blog.)

Derek Loudermilk is a former professional cyclist and scientist turned full-time traveler and adventurer. He hosts one of the top rated self-help podcasts, The Art of Adventure and he's with me today on Zestology.

On this show.

  • What would life be like if you upped sticks and travelled round the world recording podcasts indefinitely? (Not that I'm jel!)
  • How might you use adventure for creativity, confidence, and storytelling?
  • What is the science behind how to get more charisma?
  • What is a simple tip you can use right now to become more charismatic and effective as a communicator?

Derek and I recorded a double-header podcast over two hours. The first hour I interviewed him for Zestology. The second hour, he interviewed me for his podcast The Art of Adventure. If you want to head straight over and listen to that one then you can click here.
